Want to make your way into Canada faster? Express Entry is the program that can help. Express Entry is an online system to manage all the applications for permanent immigration. It was introduced in 2015 to replace the older system of ‘first come first serve’ in Canada’s immigration programs.

People who fulfill the eligibility criteria submit their applications via creating an online profile known as an Expression of Interest (EOI). Express Entry pool has three Canada Immigration Programs. Applicant’s profile gets shortlisted according to their points as mentioned in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The applicant with the highest ranking will be considered for an Invitation to Apply (ITA). Selected candidates must submit duly completed application and pay the full processing fees, within the 90-days period.

Express Entry has three programs.

Federal Skilled Workers

Canada Immigration System gives opportunities for working people to start their lives in Canada with Federal Skilled Workers program. This program has its own ranking system and eligibility criteria.

The applicant must have at least one year of continuous full-time paid work experience or equivalent part-time employment in one of the 347 occupations mentioned in the National Occupational Classification System.

Work experience should be classified under skill type-level (Managerial Occupations), Skill Level A (Professional Occupations), or Skill Level B (Technical Occupations and Skilled Trades).

Applicants must score a minimum of 67 points comprising all the six factors that are education, language skill, work experience, age, arranged employment, adaptability. He/she must pass the applicable language test, possess suitable settlement funding, and successfully cleared the security background and medical examination.

Federal Skilled Traders

In 2013 Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) brought a special permanent immigration program for trades occupations, Federal Skilled Trades Program. It is a quota-based program, limited to 3000 applications per year with sub quotas.

To be eligible for the Federal Skilled Trades immigration program, applicant must have at least two years of experience in the last five years of skill trades; must qualify for language test as per Canadian Language Benchmark, and must hold offer of employment from one or two Canadian employers for at least one year of duration in an eligible skilled trade (NOC Skill level B)occupation, or Hold certification of qualification for particular trade from a Canadian provincial or territorial regulatory body.

*The Province of Quebec has its own authority to select applicants hence The Federal Skilled Trades applicants are not eligible to apply here.

Canadian Experience Class

Canadian Experience Class immigration program is ideal for the people who are familiar with life in Canada, have been working here for at least a year, and want to settle here permanently. This program offers a seamless process for experienced people who want to build their lives in Canada. To be eligible for this program:

1. Applicant must have 12 months of full-time or equivalent part-time Canadian work experience in any job profile that comes under Skill Level 0, A or B of the National Occupation Classification (NOC) in the last three years.

2. Candidate must show proficiency in one of Canada’s official languages as per the requirements by the occupation that candidate gained Canadian work experience in.

This program is only available for the people who gained experience while working or self-employed. It is not open to the experience gained during a full-time student visa.
